Half day Food Tour in Ipoh

len foong n berto is in Ipoh for a food tour last Sunday!! So as a local, i was delighted to bring them around for some good Ipoh food.

After picking them up from the bus terminal, our first stop was at Funny Mountain Soya Bean. They have the longest car queue in front of their tiny shop that serve very smooth taufu far and soya bean milk.


they basically only serve three things ie. soya bean milk, taufu fa and jellygrass(cincau)


the taufu fa. a very small portion for RM0.80. same for the other two drinks for dine in.

the next stop was at Sun Eng Heong Confectionary which is just a corner away. They are famous for their kaya puff, you can see that they get thousands of order a day and sometimes you’ll have to wait for 3-4 hours to get your ten pieces.

the third stop was supposed to be at Sun Seng Fatt Curry Noodle, but too bad the shop was closed, i think Sunday was a very good business day for them that's why they can close earlier.

so we went for HorHee(河喜) instead. i forgot the name of the shop and forgot to take photos also. But the shop is very near to Kong Heng, Old Town. The HorHee only sell at night.

After lunch, we stop by Nan Heong for take-away iced white coffee.


How can you missed out old town white coffee when you are in Ipoh. but i wouldn’t want a packet for myself because I have to save my stomach for my favourite peanut soup!!

After dessert, we went to a place to cool us down,quoting len foong.
Kek Lok Cave is very cooling inside, in fact lime stone caves are very cooling inside. The cave is my most favourite cave among a few in Ipoh area, the ceiling room is very high and there’s a well-maintained garden behind the cave.

Before a must chicken-taugeh keuy teow soup dinner, i brought them to Aneka Selera in Ipoh Garden. Aneka Selera Food Court has been around for many years, it is famous for curry noodles(Tung Ku Teng Curry Noodle).


But that evening we opt for something lighter like ikan bakar(grilled stingray), fried shrimp and squid with water spinach(鱿鱼蕹菜).

After the late tea, we went to Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken for dinner. I personally like Taugeh Chicken from this restaurant better. The aroma of the soup taste better than Lou Wong. But i have to admit the sauce for chicken and bean sprout is a bit too salty.



After dinner, it’s time to head to bus terminal to send them off.

i compile the places we went that day onto a Google map. i even added some extra places for good Ipoh food, ok maybe not some but a lot more.

Good things come together so we have Dim Sum

Too bad i am bad at sports. I don’t know how swim, i don’t know how play badminton. People say the best way to release stress is to play sports, no wonder i so stress, stress don’t know where to put. How?? That day after the heart-to-heart sharing, i suddenly suggest “let’s go to sing K” .
Here we go on Saturday night to Neway at Mongkok. At first the girl at the counter doesn’t want to let us sing overnight. Thanks to Shiaun to “seduce” the girl to let us sing “a bit longer” (which is for another 4 hours..hahaha)
After singing some rubbish songs that doesn’t need much energy, we took MTR over to Central for this very famous restaurant in Central for Dim Sum. I’ve always wanted to go there for Dim Sum but i never wake up early enough for Dim Sum (i thought they only serve Dim Sum in morning, they actually serve till noon!!) But it's always good to wake up early to join the old folks for breakfast, kan?


1/ Never walk on a quiet street of Mongkok under day light before. it took me sometime to find the correct turning into the MTR station. It’s a total different view day and night.



2/ in front of a clothing shop near Lan Kwai Fong. empty beer bottles tell it all.



3/ Walk all the way from Lan Kwai Fong to Lin Heung Tea House along Wellington street. Sit down and found that the restaurant will be closed starting next day for renovation. such a good luck day. we are in time for the last day of business!!



4/ Specialty in Lin Heung, each customer can order tea of their choice and they serve you in a bigger tea cup instead of the teapot. No need to argue what tea you should have, get the one you like.



5/ then you pour tea into your cup.



6/ refill your tea, if you don’t want to bother the waiter. Take off the cover of your cup or teapot if you want the waiter to refill for you.



7/ the rare Dim Sum cart in Hong Kong. hong kong people please come to Ipoh, i bring you go eat Dim Sum and show you dim sum cart. what a proud Ipoh-mali



8/ Bring over the order sheet to the cart, pick the dishes, let ah jie chop on the order sheet.



9/ Siu Mai(烧卖) and Har Gao(虾饺) . i miss the Muar Siu Mai with the chilli sauce, my breakfast.



10/Char Siu Bao(叉烧包) and Sin Juk Giun(鲜竹卷). The best char siu bao after Fu San.



11/ Jin Dui(煎堆). Like the pastry. with a special aroma and crispy. unlike the one my mum get in pasar, oily and hard. the lotus fillings is different from red bean fillings i used to have. i recommend this!!



12/ Chicken legs(凤爪) and Pig Liver Roll(猪肝卷). didn’t try because i don’t eat them. but an uncle sharing the same table as us insist that we should try the liver roll saying that it can only be found in Lin Heung Tea House.



13/ mushroom chicken(蘑菇鸡) and cotton chicken(棉花鸡). cotton is actually fish skin XD



14/ erm..some fried rice i forgot the name. very filling, taste like the fried rice we had during Chinese wedding banquet. and i make a stupid joke about this. keep it as inside joke.



15/ shiau aun=shiaun. the tongue don’t stick out lar

Sushi One for Three

Went for sushi with my foong foong n berto last night at Mongkok One Sushi!! because they offer half price sushi after 10pm with each person have to spend $60.
So many people were waiting outside for seats. We waited for around one hour, stand outside the shop until we were so boring until we went to buy paparazzi magazine. haha. the cover story is Kay Tse did plastic surgery. dunno what is so big deal about it. the magazine even report 张家辉 and 关咏荷 went to look for new house in Hong Kong Island area. walau, why are people looking for new home bothering Hong Kong people?? people buy new house cannot meh?

They cant get us a table so we have to sit by the conveyor belt. Before we went in, we already ticked the ordering form and only give the ordering form to the waiter.
Not too long later, we got our food. Here are some of sour food, sometimes too busy eating until forget to take out camera.

hoho..minimum spend of $60 will be very full for one person since sushi and rolls will be half price, you can eat double the portion than normal.

最近很想写香港美食，因为那天写湾仔和深水埗写得太过瘾。

要写的是我还没发现OPENRICE及认识会吃的朋友之前，觉得香港最好吃的食物。
这最好吃的就是-大家都爱的糖水！！！
香港的糖水店就好象马来西亚MAMAK档一样林立。住家附近一定会有，只是看那家店的糖水好吃与否。大学附近，好吃的糖水也就那两间，大家就将就将就，就先看看嘛。

Honeymoon Dessert is a very famous dessert shop in Hong Kong. Besides the main shop in Sai Kung, there have a lot of branches not only around Hong Kong, but also in China and Indonesia(T.T why they have it in Indon only, fast fast go M’sia open branches le)

This is {i cant find the english name online}. the chinese name is 糖不甩. same name as a song by Fiona Sit. It taste a bit like Muachi, steamed sweet rice ball served with crunched peanuts.

Thai Black Glutinous Rice with Mango (Coconut Juice) haha. it’s so much more easy to copy from the website. i love internet and website to bits!!

you can find super a lot of Hui Lau Shan Dessert shop in Mongkok area. it hink Mongkok has the highest density of Hui Lau Shan Dessert Shop. But it’s a bit more expensive there, i think the same to Central, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai area.

ok, i forgot all the names. this is too long ago.green colour would be honeydew, orange colour would be mango.

QQ balls. i haven’t tried anything like this before, very chewy. the ball is transparent with different filling. red bean paste on the left and green tea paste at the right.

mango pudding. nice but pricey.
a jeuk soh for students in HK (ie. len foong), show your Student card before ordering in Cong Sou Dessert, then you will get a 10% discount. very good, right??
